## Commentary

HT 87: *21F-TU-NE · MA-KA-RI-TE · heads six men at one unit each (PI-TA-KE-SI 1 … KU-RU-KU 1, A-RA-[?]-A-TU 1); HT 117b: *21F-TU-NE · over KU-RE-JU 1, DI-KI-SE 1; HT 7b: *21F-TU-NE 1 before DA-RU-*329 2. A rubric or personnel category in all three. √ḫ-t-n 'bridegroom, son-in-law' is pan-Semitic: Akkadian ḫatānu (CAD Ḫ 148), Ugaritic ḫtn (DULAT 408–409), Hebrew ḥātān (HALOT 364–365) and Arabic ḫatan (Lane 703–704). Syllabic controls are Ugaritic {LU₂}ḫa-ta-nu and Neo-Assyrian ḫa-tu₂-nu /ḫatunu/ (WVDOG 152, P514187.11.1), the latter the closest spelling to the Linear A, though much later. ḫa-tu-ne writes /ḫatun-/, final E a dead vowel. Three attestations.
