## Commentary

HT 115a, an accounting tablet with GRA+BOSm; in erasure on .2 (GORILA I 188–91). √n-w-r 'to shine, give light': Ug. nwr /nāra/, /yanūr-/ 'to be bright, shine' (Huehnergard 2012, 50), nrt 'lamp'; Heb. נוּר nūr, nēr 'lamp'; Ar. nūr. 'Light' is a common name element: Amorite Niwru and ʾAbu-niwra (Gelb 1980, nos. 5026, 162), Ebla nu-ru₁₂-ud 'light' (Pagan 1998, row 3919). Rival: *301 = r, which gives r-u-ra, an awkward reduplication. See NU-RO.

## Rival readings

- naʿar: servant, retainer (root n-ʿ-r): Heb. נַעַר naʿar 'lad, servant, retainer'. Suits a tablet listing people and grain just as well.
