## Commentary

PK 1 .2 A-DU-ZA 1, the first name below the ruling, after KA-QA 2 and before TA₂-TA-RE 1, in a list of names at 1 each (GORILA I 281). Addu + ʿazz 'strong', the god first as in A-DU-NI-TA-NA and A-DU-KU-MI-NA. ZA writes (ʿa)zz. Ugaritic sets the god before ʿz: mt ʿz 'Mot was strong' (KTU 1.6 VI 17; DULAT 194); cf. Heb. ʾElʿûzay (1 Chr 12:6), Akk. Enlil-ezzu. Phoenician ʿŠTRTʿZ 'ʿAštart is (my) Strength' sets ʿz after the god, beside ʿZBʿL (Benz 1972, 175, 222; Krahmalkov 2000, 392). Rival: hadas 'myrtle' (PS *hadas-), which needs ZA for s. One witness.
