## Commentary

ZA 10a: among personal names, quantity 1. A sentence name, ʿammī 'my kinsman', a divine epithet, with dāʿ (√y-d-ʿ 'know'): ʿAmmī-dāʿ 'My kinsman knows'. ʿammī- opens ʿAmmîšaddāy (Num 1:12) and ʿAmmînādāb (Exod 6:23); -dāʿ closes ʾĂbîdāʿ and ʾEldāʿā (Gen 25:4) and ʾElyādāʿ (2 Sam 5:16). The abī-/aḫī-/ʿammī- rotation on one base (Abinadab, Ahinadab 1 Kgs 4:14, Amminadab) sets ʿAmmī-dāʿ beside the attested ʾĂbîdāʿ. Initial ʿa- is written A. Howard tabulates the ʿAmmī + verb sentence name (ʿAmmi-yepuʿ, kings of Talhayum, at Mari, Terqa and Šeḥna), with ʾIli-yepaʿ at Alalah rotating the first element (Howard 2023, appendix). A-MI-DA-O (PH(?) 31b.5) is broken at the start, ]A-MI-DA-O (GORILA I 319). Rival: a Hurrian name (cf. MI-TA). Cf. JA-DA-SU (Yadaʿ-Šum), from the same verb. One attestation. See *306+MI.
