## Commentary

HT 81 A-SE · MI+JA+RU · ≈⅙, HT 93a A-SE · I GRA+PA 26¾, HT 132 A-SE · A319 5: A-SE opens an entry, then a divider and a commodity; ZA Zb 3, a clay vessel, writes VIN 32 over DI-DI-KA-SE A-SA-MU-NE A-SE. Four attestations at two sites, on tablets and a vessel. ʾāsē 'physician', a culture word from Sum. azu: Akk. asû, Aram. ʔsy(ʔ), Arb. ʔāsin, and the Euphrates name ì-lí-a-si-ia 'my god is my physician' (GlOS 1, 47); Official Aramaic, Nabataean and Palmyrene ʾsy 'physician' (DNWSI 88). Hebrew Asa is read 'physician' by Stamm (HALOT 73). Each entry is an allocation to the physician: myrrh, a drug, on HT 81; grain on HT 93a, as QA-QA-RU receives the same grain; on ZA Zb 3 the title follows Eshmun, the healing god, as A-KO-A-NE follows PI-TE-RI. Rival: ʾaššē 'fire offering', Heb. ʾiššeh (HALOT 93). Weak point: the West Semitic forms are Aramaic and Arabic; the Bronze Age witnesses are names, ì-lí-a-si-ia (GlOS 1, 47) and Asīya (A-SE-JA). See I-SI.
