## Commentary

HT 117a .8–9 DA-NE-KU-TI 1, after DA-MI-NU 1 and before KI-DA-RO 1, in the second list headed SA-TA (GORILA I 197). ḏā 'the one of', as in DA-MI-NU, + naquddi, genitive of naqudd- 'speckled', Jacob's flock (Gen 30:32), TI writing di: 'He of the speckled (flock)'. KU-TI answers to -qudd-, as Hebrew nəquddîm (Gen 30:39; HALOT 719); Safaitic has the name Nqd (Harding 1971, 597). DA-MI-NU beside it answers to LB da-mi-ni-jo, a shepherd at Knossos. Rivals: nāqidi 'herdsman' (Ebla na-gi-du-um, GlOS 2, 92), as Ugaritic nqdm 'chief shepherds' with the same d in ksp d … nqdm (KTU 4.369:2–8; DULAT 253), whose a-i vowels miss NE-KU; DA-NE + KU-TI, neither part attested alone.
