## Commentary

PH 7a .1 DI-PA-JA, line-initial at the original left edge and whole; a short stroke stands apart after JA where the surface breaks (GORILA I 295, note .1). Linear B writes the vessel di-pa, given four handles, three or none on PY Ta 641 (qe-to-ro-we, ti-ri-jo-we, a-no-we): a vessel of some size rather than a cup (DMic I s.v. di-pa). Homeric δέπας keeps the word, borrowed from a Mediterranean language (Chantraine 1968, s.v. δέπας). DI-PA-JA writes the stem with -JA. Rival: Arabic dabbat 'vessel for oil' (PS *dabb-). One attestation.
