- Amorite: for the rival, JDʿ 'to know' as a name element (Gelb 1980, glossary); JADAʿ+JAT-UM (Gelb 1980, no. 3168); bare JID-I, written I-DI (no. 2432)
- Akkadian: for the rival, ia-ú-du 'Judah' (Sennacherib, 701 BCE)

## Attestations

- [HT 8a](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT8a/index.md>): JE-DI OLE+KI 10 — the Idaean (gentilic, transaction header); rival yēdīʿ 'He knows' (personal name)
- [HT 36](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT36/index.md>): JE-DI \*307+\*307-GRA+QE \[\[20\]\] 44 ¹⁄₂ — the Idaean (gentilic, heading); rival yēdīʿ 'He knows' (personal name)
- [HT 122b](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT122b/index.md>): JE-DI \*346 VIR+\[?\]\[ — the Idaean (gentilic of Mount Ida; heading)
- [HT 140](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT140/index.md>): JE-DI OLE+KI 1 ¹⁄₂

## Commentary

HT 8a: JE-DI OLE+KI 10, heading the list; HT 36: JE-DI GRA+QE 44½; HT 122b: JE-DI · *346 · VIR+[?], heading a roster of men; HT 140: JE-DI · OLE+KI 1½ in mid-line, JE damaged, with room for a lost sign before it. A recipient on three tablets. yedī 'the Idaean', gentilic of Mount Ida. Rivals: yēdīʿ 'he knows' as a personal name, with ʿ unwritten (Hebrew Yĕdîʿăʾēl, 1 Chr 11:45; Amorite JADAʿ+JAT-UM, Gelb 1980, no. 3168); yehūdī 'Judean', which leaves the ū of -hū- unwritten (U writes /hu/ in U-NA, so the expected spelling is JE-U-DI) and needs Judah, first attested under Tiglath-pileser III (c. 734 BCE), some 700 years after LM IB. See I-DA and JA-DI.
