## Attestations

- [HT 115a](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT115a/index.md>): PA-RA-NE 1 — short form of A-PA-RA-NE, 'crosser' or 'creator', 1
- [HT 115b](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT115b/index.md>): \]RU PA-RA-NE ¹⁄₂ — short form of A-PA-RA-NE, 'crosser' or 'creator', ½

## Commentary

HT 115a: PA-RA-NE 1 in a GRA+BOSm list beside *301-U-RA naura 'light', SE-KU-TU, KA-PO-RU and RI-SU-MA; HT 115b: ½; both by Scribe 8, who also writes A-PA-RA-NE (HT 96a and b). The short form of A-PA-RA-NE, without the initial ʿayin of √ʿ-b-r or the prosthetic aleph of √b-r-ʾ, 'the crosser', with 'creator' the rival. Amorite Ḥa-pí-ra-an, of the element ḤPR ḥapir-, *ʿapir-, the ʿApiru/Ḥabiru word (Huffmon 1965, 36, 202), and ʾAPR-AN AP-RA-AN (Gelb 1980, no. 863) match it with -ān, cuneiform ḫ writing ʿ. Borger derives ʿapīru from ʿ-p-r 'dust' (apud Huffmon 1965, 202); PA writes p and b alike.
