# PU-RA₂ (Bōl)

> Baal, 'Lord' (allocation heading)

A Linear A word in the Linear A Lexicon. The reading is a proposal and carries its tier.

- Reading: Bōl
- Confidence: Candidate. A comparison worth testing; the evidence is thin or the word is rare.
- Root: [\*baʕl-](<https://linear-a.ai/roots/8/index.md>) 'husband, master, owner'
- Kind: Administrative
- Language: Semitic
- Signs: PU (pu) · RA₂ (ra₂)

## Compared forms

- Amarna: bʿl / bʿl t bbtm 'lord, master / lord of the houses' (EA 102 n.5; EA 11 n.22)

## Attestations

- [HT 28b](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT28b/index.md>): PU-RA₂ NI 6 — Baal (Lord)
- [HT 116a](<https://linear-a.ai/texts/HT116a/index.md>): PU-RA₂ GRA 40

## Commentary

HT 28b and HT 116a: an allocation heading. Gordon's Baʿl/Bōl, with the proposed values PU = bV and RA₂ = l and the ʿayin lost. Ebla has bare ba-lu, ba₄-lum 'lord' as personal names (Pagan 1998, rows 1110, 1153). ZA 6a ]PU₂-RA₂ GRA+PA 20 is a candidate for the same name at Zakros, with PU₂ = bu, in the same name-with-grain slot; the line is broken before PU₂, so the word can be longer. RA₂ = l stands without this word: SA-RA₂ šarra writes the marked liquid, as Linear B ra₂ /rya, lya/ (Judson 2020, 72, 74), and KN 54 writes PU-RA with plain RA. Two attestations.

## In the onomasticon

- [PU-RA₂](<https://linear-a.ai/names/PU-RA~E2~82~82/index.md>): God or goddess, Semitic
