## Commentary

ZA 8 .3–4 TA-I-NU-MA-PA ∠, intact, after A-RI-NI-TA 'She-of-the-Lion' (GORILA III 165). The Egyptian woman's name tꜣ-n.t-mn-nfr 'she of Memphis' (Ranke I, 360.14; Ilin-Tomich 2025, s.v. tꜣ-n.t-mn-nfr), borne by three Memphite women from Amenhotep II to Sety I (Prosopographia Memphitica, persons 1509, 1828, 2490). TA-I writes the article with the j of its usual spelling, the pestle tj (ti n:t mn nfr; Ilin-Tomich 2025), tꜣy beside tꜣ (Allen 2014, §5.11), as DA-I writes ṭay- in DA-I-PI-TA on the same tablet. NU writes n(.t), MA-PA Memphis as Coptic ⲙⲛϥⲉ has it (Peust 1999, 254): the n a coda left unwritten, as in Linear B a-to-ro-qo anthrōqʷos (Ventris and Chadwick 1956, 45), the r lost as in Amarna na-ap-ḫur-ri-ia (Hess 1993, 116); Hebrew מֹף Mōp (Hos 9:6). Rival: a Minoan name. Weak point: the lost vowel between n and f is attested only in Coptic and Greek. One witness.
