## Commentary

Only word on side b of the HT Zb 158 jar (GORILA IV 65); side a reads [·]-TU-SE-SU-KI. Gentilic on SU-KI-RI-TA (PH Wa 32), the vowel of KI dead before RI: Sukrita, Greek Σύβριτα, a Cretan town at Thronos in the Amari valley. Ventris and Chadwick read LB su-ki-ri-ta as Sugrita, KI for /gi/; the later β is the Pre-Greek β/γ alternation of βληχών/γλαχών and βλέπω/γλέπω, not a regular labio-velar outcome (Chadwick & Baumbach 1963). Davis (Aura Suppl. 13, 46) pairs the two forms as alternating endings. -TE-I-JA has no other Linear A witness; SE-TO-I-JA (PR Za 1) shares -I-JA. The ending can be the Semitic nisba *-iy- (fem. *-iyya), the suffix of gentilics such as Ugaritic ugrty /ʾugaritiyyu/ 'man of Ugarit' (Arabic nisba, Fischer §116); Anatolian -iya- fits it as well.
