HALOT 1020–1021 sets Aram., Mnd. and Arb. zwd, zād beside Hbr. ṣyd (hitp.) and ṣêdâ, Akk. ṣuddû and ṣidītu, Ug. mṣd 'food', with z for ṣ: Hebrew, Akkadian and Ugaritic keep ṣ, Aramaic and Arabic write z. Cf. 847 *ṣVwad- 'hunt'. Arabic mizwad 'a bag … for travelling-provisions' (Lane 1268) and Syriac mzīdā 'traveller's provision-bag' (Payne Smith 262) are two formations; Geez mazwad 'bag' is from the Arabic (LGz. 379).
