## In Linear A

- [TU-RU-SA](<https://linear-a.ai/lexicon/TU-RU-SA/index.md>) (Tursa): Shield, Protector (invoked in formula position two); the name Tursha

## Notes

Jastrow 1698 takes tᵉrîs from ʾ-r-s 'bind, join' (Jastrow 124). Not from Greek θυρεός, a derivative of θύρα 'door' whose sense 'shield' is Hellenistic (DELG 446–447). Not 1206 *daraḳ-, K0145 *mVgVn- or 3497 *gwb, the other shield words.

## Reflexes: Northwest Semitic

- Judaic Aramaic: tᵉrîsā 'shield' 1, rendering Hebrew māgēn (Jastrow 1698)
- Hebrew: tᵉrîs (pB.) 'shield' 1, 'shutter' 2 (Jastrow 1698)

## Reflexes: Arabic

- Arabic: turs 'a shield' 1, 'a wooden door-bar' 2; tarasa 'he fastened, or closed, the door' 2; tatarrasa 'he defended himself with a shield' 1 (Lane 302)
