PWS \*ˁgm 'to block, to stop' (LS 297 apud SEDonline 2081); 'to be dumb' is the derived sense (SLOnline 25160). SLOnline 25160 sets Heb. ˁgm 'to be sad' and JPA ˁgm 'to grieve' with Akk. agāmu 'to be angry' rather than here. Distinct from 729 \*ʕagm- 'palm tree'.
