Verb of 403 \*ḥabl- 'rope'; CAD E 8 refers ebēlu to eblu 'rope'. HALOT 285 compares Akkadian ḫabālu 'to bind, harness, catch in snares', which 403 notes as a Mari West Semitic loan; HSED 1315 builds Semitic \*ḫVbul- on it. Biella 163 compares Tigrinya ḥabälä 'lie'.
