## Notes

Proto-MSA \*sar 'behind' (SEDonline 1516). Kogan excludes PS \*ʾaṯar- 'trace' for phonological reasons, finds far-fetched the comparison with Arb. sarīr- 'the part where the head rests upon the neck', sarāt- 'back' and Amh. säräsär 'vertebra, spinal cord' made in SED I No. 253, and suggests Hbr. swr 'to turn aside', from 'to turn back' (Kogan 2015:569 apud SEDonline 1516). Cf. 2947 \*š/sar- 'vertebral column, backbone'.
