## Notes

LGz. 499 derives Geez saliḫot 'balsam, ointment, cassia' and salikā 'cassia' from Arabic salīḫa, 'originally "skinned, stripped off"', and sets Sabaic s1lḫ 'cassia' and Tigre, Tigrinya šalḫay beside it. Arabic salīḫat stands under salaḫa 'to flay' (BK 1 1121); cf. 1780 \*ša/ilḫ- 'skin, hide'. Lane 1404 gives salīḫat 'a certain perfume, or odoriferous substance, resembling bark stripped off' as assumed tropical.
