PCS \*ŝbr 'to hope, to consider' (SEDonline 1816). Hbr. ŝbr is likely an Aramaism, and Arb. sbr 'to probe the wound; to try, to examine' is also likely borrowed from Aramaic (EDA I 440, ◊P0807).
