## Notes

HALOT 1021 sets up \*ṣyh 'dry up, wither' for ṣiyyâ, with JArm. ṣǝwāʾ, Syr. ṣǝwī, Mnd. ṢWA and Arb. ṣawā; HALOT 1020 derives II \*ṣî 'creatures of the dry land' (2187) from ṣiyyâ. Not 1177 \*ṣVḥ- 'be dry' (ḥ) or 834 \*ṣVday- 'be thirsty'.
