Commentary
KH Wc 2005, a Khania roundel, the only word: an ethnic designation in a record of trade or personnel. kanaʿanītī ‘the Canaanite’: -NI-TI writes the gentilic -ītī, the nisbe of DU-RU-WI ḏu-luwwī ‘the Levite’, and the ʿ goes unwritten. Heb. kənaʿănî ‘Canaanite’ (HALOT 485), Amarna Kinaḫḫi ‘Canaan’ (EA 8:15), with the gentilic ‘Canaanite’ at EA 9:19; Punic Chanani, the people’s name for themselves (Augustine, apud Krahmalkov 2000, 236). One attestation.
