Commentary

HT 140 opens both oil sections with U-*34-SI, each followed by a name (*86-SI-NI, *86-SI-*118-KA) and OLE amounts, the second broken after SI (GORILA I 237); HT 15 opens the grain account with it (684, 570, KI-RO 400). Never a recipient. u-qīš ‘and the gift’, *34 = qi: u- ‘and’ with qīš, Akk. qīšu ‘given as a present’ (CAD Q 280), Amorite qīšum ‘given, gift’ (Gelb 1980, 29), from √q-y-š ‘give as a gift’ (PS *ḳyš), Akk. qāšu ‘make a donation, dedicate’ (CAD Q 156). Rivals: uqīš ‘he bestowed’, D preterite, written ū-qa-īš (CAD Q 156, mng. 3); a name, as U-MI-NA-SI in the same header slot (HT 117a, HT 28b). Weak point: *34 = qi is a proposed value.
