Commentary

PE 1 .1–2 U-KA-RE A-SE-SI-NA, two groups, the heading over KU-PA-RI kuparī VIR 5̣0[ and E-KA[ VIR 72, each with grain at ½ unit a head (Younger, Linear A Texts, after Tsipopoulou & Hallager 1996, 25–30). u-gā-r, the construct before A-SE-SI-NA ḥašīšin ‘of hay’, RE’s vowel dead, as Mari ina ú-ga-ar ekallim ‘from the meadow of the palace’ (ARMT 23 244:10; CAD U/W 31). Men of the ugāru draw provisions in Akkadian: kurummat 27 ṣābī ša ú-ga-re-e īpušū ‘provisions for 27 men who worked the meadowlands’ (BE 14 56a:26; CAD U/W 30). Rivals: ʾikkār ‘ploughman’, Hebrew ʾikkār (2 Chr 26:10, pl. ʾikkārîm), U for ʾi a vowel mismatch; the PN Ugār (DULAT 27). One witness. See A-KA-RU, A-SE-SI-NA.
