Commentary

Qatal 3ms of √y-t-n. JE = /ya/ here (not /ye/), same ambiguity as LB je. Straight theophoric truncation: Yatana-DN ‘DN-gave,’ paralleling Hebrew Nāṯān, Ugaritic Yattin-Haddu, Amorite Yantin-Dagan, Yattin-Dagan (Gelb 1980, nos. 2986, 3555). Masculine counterpart of A-TA-NA-TE (ʾAtanat), the divine name that becomes Athena—feminine of the same root with I-y > ʾ weakening. Both forms attest √y-t-n productivity in Minoan onomastics.
