Commentary
Single-word owner/dedicant inscription on clay vessel from Akrotiri. The pan-Semitic votive naming motif—a child asked of the deity (Akkadian Erišti-Aya, Hebrew Šāʾûl, Hannah’s Samuel etymology 1 Sam 1:20)—in the ʾrš lexeme; Amorite ARIŠ-AN (Gelb no. 2190) and Safaitic ʾršn carry the identical formation. Companion to THEZb6 ʾatanāya: both Thera vessels carry devotional single words.
