Notes

Hebrew ḥ answers Arabic ḫ. HALOT 352 sets ḥārîṭ under II ḥrṭ, with Ugaritic ḫrṭ 'to pluck' and Arabic ḫaraṭa 'to bark, strip' (2868 *ḫVrVṭ- 'pluck'); HALOT 353 prints the Arabic as ḥarīṭat 'sack'. Geez karasit (T), Tigrinya and Amharic kärāṭit, Harari xarīṭa are loans from Arabic (LGz. 294). Not 3607 *ṣrr 'bag, purse'.
