Notes

Akkadian ḫ points to *ḫ. HALOT 296 derives ḥôaḥ from *ḥāḥ and takes Akk. ḫaḫḫu as an Aramaic loan (von Soden); CAD Ḫ 29 compares ḫaḫḫu C 'an iron implement' with Heb. ḥōaḥ 'hook' only with 'perhaps'. Kogan 2011, 204 calls these thorn-bush terms possibly related to 3207 *ḫāḫ- 'plum-tree'; Payne Smith keeps Syr. ḥaḥā 'plum' (137) apart from ḥūḥā 'thorn' (130).
