Notes

Brock. 254–255 sets Syriac ḥarūbā beside Mishnaic Hebrew ḥrwb, Arabic ḫarnūb and Akkadian ḫarūbu. CAD Ḫ 121: the Mesopotamian ḫarūbu is the fruit of the ašāgu 'camel-thorn', the true carob being unknown in Iraq; Lane 716 likewise has a wild, thorny kind (yanbūtat) beside the Syrian kind, the carob. Not K0781 *ḫVrVb- 'dry, dry up', 2204 *ḫVrVp- 'young sheep', nor 3191 *ḫVrp- 'autumn'.
