Notes

Hommel 1879, 103 n. 2 (apud LGz. 309) compares the Geez with Arabic lihm 'aged ox', lahima 'swallow greedily' and Hebrew lhm in mitlahămīm 'who are swallowed greedily'; Al-Jallad–Jaworska 92 set Geez lāhm and Arabic lihmun beside the Safaitic. LGz. 309 calls doubtful the identification with Hebrew leḥem 'bread' and notes a possible connection with Cushitic (Bilin ləwi 'cow', Kham. ləwa, with m > w). Not 1690 *lVhVm- 'thousand; great number' or 3424 *lhm/lḥm 'to touch'.
