Notes
HALOT 1150 calls the etymology uncertain: a noun from a root *qśh or a primary noun. Ugaritic qš (I) stands parallel with ks 'cup', 297 (KTU 1.3 V 33; DULAT 706–707); qš (II) 'harsh' is K0324. Arabic qašwat 'small basket of palm leaves' (BK 2 744; DULAT 706; HALOT 1150) is another sense. Hebrew qeseṯ 'writing case' is taken as an Egyptian loan, and Syriac qesṭā 'pot' as Greek ksestēs (LGz. 448). Not 362 *ḳa(w)š- 'bow'.
