Notes
Attested in South Semitic only; the meanings in Arabic, Geez and Soqotri diverge (SED I 156). Soqotri míḳṣeh is a derived pattern, from ḳṣy 'to cut' according to Leslau (SED I 155). Akkadian kiṣṣu 'knee, shin' answers Geez ḳʷəyṣ, ḳʷəṣ but stays with kimṣu, kinṣu (SED I 156). Arabic ḳays- 'penis' and Tigrinya ḳʷəč̣ bälä 'to sit down, settle comfortably' are compared (SED I 155, 156). Leslau derives Amharic ḳəṭay and Gyeto ḳəṭəyä 'joint of foot' from ḳäṭälä 'to attach' (SED I 155).
