Notes

HALOT 1226: probably a primary noun, with the Hebrew hif. verb rwḥ 'to smell' denominative. LGz. 467 sets Geez rəḥya 'emit an odor, be fragrant' with Arabic rīḥa, Hebrew rēaḥ, Syriac rīḥā, Mandaic riha and Ugaritic rḥ. Cf. 1775 *rūḥ- 'blow, breath; spirit', whose Arabic cell holds rīḥ 'wind' (Lane 1180).
