Notes

Noun of 1443 *waraḳ- 'greenish, yellow'; not 2110 *wrḳ 'to spit'. HALOT 440 joins Hebrew yērāqôn, Syriac and Mandaic yarqānā and Akk. aw/murriqānu, and takes Arabic yarqān 'disease of plants' from Aramaic; Lane 50 has yaraqān, dial. ʾaraqān 'a blight which affects seed-produce; jaundice'. Syr. mryqnʾ 'a kind of disease' is a loan from Akk. amurriqānu (Kaufman 1974, 34; HALOT 441).
