Commentary
HT 26 (Haghia Triada, Villa Magazine, LM IB): a vessel ideogram with the phonetic complement KE, heading both faces. *406VAS draws a vessel and is a compound or ligature component, and KE narrows it to one type, as Linear B vessel ideograms take phonetic complements. Akk. kāsu, Heb. kōs, Arab. kaʾs, Ebla ga-sa-a-tum kāsāt ‘cups’ (GlOS 1, 322): KE writes its first syllable, E for a. KA-SI (skeleton k-s) on HT Wa 1027, a nodule from the same site, is a candidate for the word in syllables. HT 93a has the bare *406-VS beside DA-RI-DA with quantity 2, a vessel-class commodity sign on a second tablet. HT 26b opens with *406VAS+KE, then VIR+[?] 9 and named allocations (RO-NI 3, KA-U-ZU-NI 4, KI+MU 12): personnel and commodities distributed by vessel type. Weak point: KE writes the a of kās with E.
