Commentary

Owner/recipient name on a painted pithos, base of A-NA-NU-SI-JA-SE (HT Zb 159). -SI-JA-SE is the vessel-label adjectival formation shared with KI-TA-NA-SI-JA-SE (PE Zb 3). Gelb 1980 reads the same spelling, A-NA-NU-UM-DINGIR, as ḤANAN-UM+ʾIL (Add. 476a), beside the Amorite Ḥanan- names (nos. 475–478); Ugarit has Ḫananu, Kinlaw’s spelling (Kinlaw 1967, 55). Cuneiform does not tell ḥ from ʿ. Rival: ʿAnānu ‘cloud’, and Neh 10:27 names ʿĀnān beside Ḥānān. See A-NA-NE.
