Commentary
ARKH Zf 9, a bronze votive object from Arkhanes: JA-KI-SI-KI-NU · MI-DA-RU-RA ·, the first of two words. yaksīkin ‘May he cover you (women)!’: ya-, the 3ms prefix, the G-stem imperfect *yaksī of √k-s-y ‘to cover’, a III-weak root, and -kin, the 2fp object suffix, NU writing the final nasal. ‘Cover’ takes a second object, the covering, MI-DA-RU-RA. Jonah 3:6 וַיְכַ֣ס שַׂ֔ק וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב עַל־הָאֵֽפֶר ‘he covered himself with sackcloth and sat in the ashes’ joins √k-s-y and ashes in penitence before God, and Jonah 3:8 וְיִתְכַּסּ֣וּ שַׂקִּ֗ים ‘let them cover themselves with sackcloth’ has the Hithpael (tD) of the same root. One attestation. See MI-DA-RU-RA and MI-KI-SE-NA.
