Commentary

HT 116a: KU-PA-JA GRA 16, first of six grain recipients under U-TA-RO · TE ·, with PU-RA₂, SI+SE, PI-*34-TE, SI-KI-NE and QA-NU-MA. KU-PA-JA writes Kubbaya, the geminate unwritten, -aya the hypocoristic ending on Kubaba’s short base, as -ān- on KU-PA₃-NU Kubānu; cf. Amorite KUBB-IJA at Mari, KUBB-AN-UM (Gelb AS 21 nos. 4148–4149) and the goddess Kupapa (Gelb 1980, 23). Rival: KU-PA quppa ‘box, basket’ (HT 110a, KH 29, ZA 11a/b) with -ya. One attestation.
