Commentary
HT 31 .6, a vessel inventory: PA-TA-QE written over the *402-VS cup logogram, 3000, the largest allocation on the tablet; one of Gordon’s HT 31 vessels (Gordon 1966 §115). pitqē: Stieglitz compares Aramaic pitqā ‘winecup’ (Lewy, Chaldäisches Wörterbuch, s.v.) and Akkadian naptaqu ‘smelting-jar’ (AHw, s.v.), both apud Stieglitz 1971, 111; Jastrow 1173 gives pitqā ‘tablet, ballot, decree’, and Targ. II Esth. 1:8 names a large goblet Pithka, ‘Decree’. Stieglitz sets the ending -e beside the archaic Hebrew plural -ê and the Ugaritic dual construct (Stieglitz 1971, 110). Rival: Akkadian patāqu ‘to cast metal’, ‘metal vessel’ (Astour, JAOS 87, 1967, 292 n. 13, apud Stieglitz 1971, 111).
