Commentary

MA Ze 11, incised in the Malia palace south of the north-west court (GORILA IV 140), complete. qešet ‘bow’: QE writes qe, SI še, a vowel mismatch only, and TE the feminine -t, as Heb. qešet (HALOT 1155); Akk. qaštu (CAD Q 148), Ug. qšt (DULAT 707), Geʿez qast. Rival: kussīʾ ‘throne, seat’ (Akk. kussû, Ug. ksu, Heb. kissēʾ), which suits a palace but has no -t for TE. One attestation. Cf. QE-SI-ZU-E.

Rival readings

  • kussīʾthrone, seat (root k-s-ʾ); Akk. kussû, Ug. ksu, Heb. kissēʾ. Fits a palace label, but the word has no -t for TE and QE must stand for k.
