Commentary
HT 117a: U-DI-MI 1, the seventh of the ten men in KU-RO 10, on the list with U-SU ʾUšu (mainland Tyre); the reverse labels men by origin (DI-KI-SE, HT 117b). ʾUdmī ‘the Udumite’: Udum, Kirta’s city, Ugaritic udm rbt ‘Udum the great’ (KTU 1.14 III 30), Amarna ᵘʳᵘú-du-mu (EA 256:24) (DULAT 18–19). DI writes the d of the -dm- cluster with the vowel of MI, as KI writes the k of -kr- in SU-KI-RI-TA Sukrita; Ugaritic udm, udmy. udm is *ʾudum-, the form of Hebrew ʾēdōm (UVST 275 n. 39), Edom, ‘? orig. the area distinguished by red soil’ (HALOT 12); HALOT 16 reads Adami-nekeb as ‘red (place) at the pass’, with a queried Ugaritic udm. One attestation. See U-SU.
