Notes
Arabic ʾijjānat and the Ethiopic word are loans from Aramaic (Fraenkel 68 and Leslau 9 apud HALOT 11). Lane 26 glosses ʾijjānat ‘a vessel in which clothes are washed’. Egyptian *ʾaguna ‘large vessel’, in Syrian tribute (Urk. IV 665, 16; 717, 16), written a-ku-nu at Amarna, EA 14 iii 36, EA 148:12 (Hoch 1994, 42–43 no. 36). A Sarepta jug handle in Ugaritic script reads agn z pʿl yd[--] ‘this bowl PN made’, KTU 6.70 1 (Rendsburg 2026, 204).
