Commentary

Context: Votive/ritual — stone libation vessel from Palaikastro

GORILA IV 40: a ]TU-ME, b I · JA-SA-SA[. The break falls before TU, no divider stands at the corner between ME and I, and the second SA sits on the broken right edge. Neither word is complete. If JA-SA-SA-[ opens JA-SA-SA-RA-ME, the √t-m-m + √y-š-r pairing of Job 1:1 אִישׁ תָּם וְיָשָׁר (ʾîš tām wᵉ-yāšār) ‘a man perfect and upright’ stands as a parallel, not a reading.

Epigraphic note

Libation table fragment, inscribed on two faces of one corner (GORILA IV 40): a ]TU-ME, b I · JA-SA-SA[. The break falls before TU, which is drawn whole, and ME is dotted in GORILA’s second transcription. The second SA sits on the broken right edge, its right arm running into the break, so JA-SA-SA is probably the opening of JA-SA-SA-RA-ME. No divider stands between ME and I, so the corner divides one group, ]-TU-ME-I, as on PK Za 8. The only divider stands between I and JA.
