Notes

HALOT 59 takes the Hebrew as an Aramaic loanword (Wagner 18), gives Jewish Aramaic and Syriac ʾlp beside ylp, and derives ʾelep 'cattle' (2113) from the verb as 'tame animal'; SED keeps 2113 apart from the verb. Arabic also has walafa III 'to be familiar' (HALOT 59). Not K0580 *ʾVlVp- 'thousand'.
