Notes

HALOT 81 derives II ʾāṣîl from I ʾṣl, a root it sets up on Arabic ʾaṣula 'to be firmly rooted, to be of noble descent' and ʾaṣl 'rootstock' (HALOT 82; Lane 64–65). Not 419 *ʾ/wVṣVl- 'join' or K0618 'set aside'.
