Notes

Arabic ẓ answers Hebrew and Phoenician ṣ (*ṯ̣). HALOT 868 refers the verb to ʿeṣem 'bone', and Lane 2086, after El-Isbahānī, takes ʿaẓuma first as 'great in his bone' (1868 *ʕaṯ̣m-(at-) 'bone'). Krahmalkov 385 compares Phoenician ʿṣmt with Hebrew ʿăṣūmâ. Phoenician ʿṣmt (KAI 14:19) is one token: a noun 'great deeds' to Krahmalkov 385 and HALOT 867 ('powerful actions'), an adj. f. 'mighty' to Tomback 255.
