Notes
HALOT 237 sets Arabic hajāʷ 'to mutter a recitation, to spell out' beside Hebrew hgh; Syriac hegyā 'a syllable' (Payne Smith 99) and Mandaic hugyana 'letter' (HALOT 238) answer Arabic ḥurūf al-hijāʾ 'letters of the alphabet' (BK 2 1396). Arabic hajā 'to satirize' (Lane 3042; BK 2 1396) is another sense.
