Notes

HALOT 483 sets Heb. III kēn 'stand, base' with Akk. kannu 'stand, vessel'. Kaufman (AS 19, 62) takes Akk. kannu 'base' as cognate with, not a loan into, Heb. kēn and Syr. kannā; the sense 'vessel' is shared by Akkadian and Mandaic. Syr. kanā is also 'stem, root', cf. Akk. kannu C 'slip, stalk, shoot of a plant' (CAD K 157). Not 2223 *kVnn(Vm)- (Heb. kēn 'gnat').
