Notes

PCS *naʿl- 'shoe, sandal' (Kogan 2015, ch. 3 §5.3 no. 22), perhaps from *nʿl 'to lock, to secure' (Hbr. nʿl 'to bolt'); it may have replaced PS *ŝaʾn- 'shoe' (K0547). Mhr. nəʾāl 'sandals', Soq. naʿal 'shoe' may be Arabic loans.
