Notes
PCS *pVṭr- 'fungus' (SEDonline 1818); EDA I 518 (◊P0960) cites JBA piṭṭūrā, Syr. peṭṭortā, Arb. fuṭr- and Hbr. piṭrā for Akk. puṭūru <a foodstuff>, possibly a loanword from Aramaic. Hbr. piṭrā is post-Biblical. Cf. 3204 *kamʾ-at- 'mushroom, truffle'. Arabic fuṭr 'toadstool, fungus' (Lane 2416) is a loan from Syriac (Brock. 565); Lane's sources derive it from faṭara 'to cleave' (TA).
