Notes
HALOT 750 compares Akkadian saḫāru. HALOT 1465 sets II šḥr 'to seek' with saḫāru; its š for s is irregular. Nouns of the root: Hebrew sōḥērâ 'wall, protection' and Akkadian siḫirtu (HALOT 750). Kaufman AS 19, 90 takes Syriac sāḥartā 'walled enclosure, palace' (Payne Smith 372) as a loan from Akkadian saḫertu, and Arabic sāḥir 'magician' from Akkadian sāḫiru through Aramaic (also Zimmern apud HALOT 1466).
